Esperance Residential College is located on the magnificent Bay of Isles on the Western Australian south coast.
It is a major centre for agriculture, tourism and fishing with a population of 14,000 people. It is the regional port (2003 Australian Port of the Year) shipping iron ore, nickel and grain.
The residential college, the Esperance Senior High School and Curtin University are all situated on the Esperance Community College campus and work in partnership to meet the education needs of people in the Esperance region.
Students attending the residential college have access to excellent educational choices as part of a vibrant and growing regional area. The boost to local infrastructure as a result of the $1.2 billion nickel mine near Ravensthorpe will have a significant impact on regional development. In 2005, $3.2m was spent on upgrading the Esperance Senior High School and Curtin University facilities. A new junior campus will provide state of the art facilities for Year 8 and Year 9 students at a cost of $7.5m. The residential college had an $800,000 upgrade in December 2004 with major improvements to the front entrance and a new roof.
Esperance Senior High School consistently has students achieving at the highest level. Its Year 12 students consistently achieve a 95% success rate in completing TEE and attaining a university place. Every year since 1993 the Esperance Senior High School has received Honours in the State finals of the Tournament of the Minds. The School has also been selected for the national finals eight times over the last eleven years. Two of its students have won a prestigious John Curtin scholarship and the school has achieved numerous first places at agricultural shows and sporting events.
Our priority is to make sure that the students at the residential college access the resources on offer and achieve to their potential. As such, the Esperance Residential College offers students 24-hour care and supervision, tutoring in all subject areas, computer links to the high school and university databases, and access to the Community College library. The residential college provides students with a comfortable and pleasant living environment and is well equipped with indoor and outdoor recreation facilities. The recreation program organised by the college staff ensures that the students experience all that the Esperance region has to offer.
