Northam Residential College – providing an opportunity for students in remote areas to attend primary, secondary and TAFE colleges by providing affordable, good quality, supervised accommodation, care and services.
Northam is located 98 kms east of Perth at the gateway to the Wheatbelt agricultural district.
Northam Residential College provides well equipped facilities with modern air-conditioned single room accommodation for all students. Facilities include student lounge and common rooms, pool and table tennis tables, study and game computers, wide screen TV/DVD, and access to tennis, basketball, netball, hockey and football facilities. Spacious modern bedrooms contain large study desks, drawers and wardrobes. The completion of the paved outdoor pool area provides students with the opportunity to participate in aquatic activities and outside dining. Two fenced horse paddocks at the rear of the property can be utilised for student equine requirements.
We actively support and encourage students with their studies by providing an excellent learning environment which is functional and well maintained. It is our personal goal to ensure all students feel liked, respected and supported by peers and staff, enjoy college life and are socially confident. The residential college is located opposite Northam Senior High School, walking distance from TAFE (Northam Campus) and a short bus ride to St Joseph’s Catholic School. Numerous primary schools are also located in close proximity.
Northam Senior High School offers an unique opportunity for students to experience a truly rural Australian education in a quiet and safe country town close to the city of Perth. The school was the first senior high school to be established outside of the city and has beautiful historical buildings and traditions going back to the 1920’s. The school has a proud academic record with recent tertiary results being some of the best in the State. There are a full range of courses offered for students aiming at university entrance as well as a large suite of courses catering for those who are vocationally oriented. It is possible for students to study combinations of subjects as the timetable allows for maximum flexibility.
All the teaching staff have university qualifications and there is an excellent blend of youth and experience. With a student population of around 700 students class sizes in most subjects are between 15 and 20 and in some instances even smaller giving an opportunity for personal attention and tuition.
Northam SHS has links with Curtin University through the Muresk Campus and has for several years had a close liaison in science with Murdoch University. The school offers a wide range of extra curricular activities including a jazz band, art, drama and cultural activities and two cadet corps.
The town of Northam is small but all services are available and the country lifestyle is both healthy and safe. By attending a country school which is only a little over one hour’s drive from the international airport, students have the best of all worlds. Students boarding at the well equipped Northam Residential College are fully supervised and have the opportunity for extra tuition and excellent pastoral care.
Our close proximity to Perth allows a varied activities program which includes regular supervised outings to Perth. This assists students achieve developmental, social, recreational and life experience goals.
