In recent years, the celebration of ANZAC Day has taken on increased significance in the Australian community. Record attendances at dawn services and parades reflect this increased interest.
Celebration of ANZAC Day provides students with an opportunity to learn about Gallipoli and of Australia’s involvement in conflict in the years since then.
It builds an appreciation of the contributions of Australian men and women to maintaining the principles of freedom and democracy.
Teachers may also use the opportunity such a celebration presents for critical evaluation of Australia’s role in global conflict and the quest for world peace. |
