SPECIAL WEEKS DURING OCTOBER 2008
Education Week has traditionally been held in the second week of Term 4, around mid to late October. With WA Week re-launched in 2007 to provide Western Australians with an opportunity to celebrate the State’s unique achievements and contributions and Children’s Week an ongoing national week, there are now three celebrations within the one week each October.
In 2008 WA Week will be held from Monday, 20 to Sunday, 26 October 2008 and Children’s Week will be held from Saturday, 18 to Sunday, 26 October 2008.
Celebrate WA is keen for schools to support WA Week and has developed a range of exciting initiatives for participation. Useful information and tips for schools on different activities and events to promote schools is also available on the WA Week website at celebratewa.com.au.
Schools can also participate in Children’s Week, which is organised by the Meerilinga Young Children’s Foundation. There are awards for children, adults and projects as well as an official launch. Details of all Children’s Week activities and how to be involved are available on the website at meerilinga.org.au.
All the celebrations provide an opportunity to highlight the outstanding programs and achievements of students and teachers in our schools.
To celebrate education, we have developed a poster for display in schools reminding the community of the important role that public schools play in our society.
In addition, the Australian Education Union has designated Friday, 31 October 2008 as World Teachers’ Day in Australia. An advertisement celebrating teachers will be placed in the 24 October 2008 edition of School Matters and an advertisement will be placed in a Statewide newspaper on the day.
