Information on Working with Children Legislation

All agencies are required to comply with the state's Working With Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004.

Impact on the Education Sector in 2006

In accordance with "phasing in" Regulations of the Act, certain employees are required to obtain a Working With Children Check during the course of 2008. To view details of the roll out schedule click here or visit www.checkwwc.wa.gov.au.

Working With Children checks

Please note that the Department's current National Criminal History Record Check for education sector employment cannot be used for, and is not the same as, a Working With Children check.

Similarly, a Working With Children check alone cannot be used for employment with the Department as the criminal history information checked relates only to suitablility to work with children, and does not take into account other information relevant to employment such as fraud, stealing etc.
